Building Workforce Housing for Nebraska

The hot topic of discussion across Nebraska and Kansas is the need for workforce housing. Many rural communities have employment opportunities, but lack affordable, quality homes for workers to purchase and live in those communities.

Recently, Big Prairie Homes teamed up with Legacy Purpose Homes to build three spec houses in Loomis, Nebraska. The homes are currently on the market for sale with prices ranging from $185,000 to $225,000.

Legacy Purpose LLC, based in Phelps County, is led by Roger Allmand and Business Manager Janet Boehler. Although they are not traditionally in the home-building business, they had a desire to give back to the community by building the homes.

The homes offer three different floor plans sized from 1,100 finished square feet to nearly 1,600 finished square feet. Full (unfinished) basements, two-car garages, energy efficiency, major appliances and easy care interior and exterior finishes round out some of the amenities of these brand new homes.

Phelps County Development Corporation provided home building incentives to help keep the prices of the homes affordable.
